Top NewsVirginia Troopers Quit Over Rules Restricting Free Expression 531 days 6 hours 12 minutes agoStanding up for their rights against the restrictive policies of political correctness…awesome!
“There were several of us who felt that because of our convictions. about what the Bible says, we couldn’t agree to go along with a generic prayer policy,” said 13-year trooper Rex Carter, who works in Southwest Virginia.
Republican lawmakers in the state concurred, arguing that the new restrictions are a violation of the First Amendment and an attack on Christianity.
“For those of us who understand the importance of religion in American life and value the free expression of religion as one of our essential rights, the Kaine administration’s directive is disappointing and disheartening,” House Majority Leader H. Morgan Griffith, R-Salem, said.
“Censoring what these chaplains can say is a violation of their First Amendment right to freedom of expression,” Del. Charles W. Carrico Sr., said.
The former state trooper is currently putting together an online petition to get the police department to rescind the new rule.

ON THE "RENAISSANCE GENERATION" 532 days 5 hours 1 minute ago
CRYSTAL BALLS
This interview with the author of a new book titled "RenGen: The rise of the cultural consumer and what it means to your business", caught my eye. Heres how the author, Patricia Martin describes "RenGen", aka the "Renaissance Generation":
"The RenGen is a psychographic more than a demographic, but when you
look at census figures alone you have this large group of boomers who
in their youth idealistically wanted to change the world, got
frustrated and cashed out. You also have this even larger, rising
segment of young people every bit as idealistic as boomers once were.
If you look at a census table, it looks like a book-ended generation
with these two groups on either end. As for their
characteristics — they are eco-conscious; they take their cues from
nature so they are willing to accept products that are flawed but
authentic rather than slickly produced and inauthentic. Dove figured
this out with the real-women campaign.
They want to make a difference.
They want to live many lives. They don’t want to be told, “You can’t be
an architect and a poet.” They are sensualists. Because they are both
idealistic and cynical at the same time, they have learned to trust
what they experience rather than what experts tell them. That is why
design and aesthetics are so elevated right now."
Despite that horoscope like opening, the author really caught my eye with this enticing prediction: "I predict that what we will see out of the younger RenGen is the
largest class of entrepreneurs the United States has seen in a long
time. Not only are they driven to do original work, but they are going
to want to live that out in originally designed careers."
Its a cool, idealistic vision, especially appealing in these turbulent times. Adding the book to the reading list.

A Special Place for Hybrids 567 days 18 hours 39 minutes agoA little over a month ago, I decided to sell my beloved Nissan Maxima and explore my inner hippie. I loved that Maxima. Attractive, reliable…though not so easy on the pocketbook. It requires premium gasoline and the gas tank has about a 21-gallon capacity. And I drive a ton, so I was fueling up often. So, I bought a Toyota Camry Hybrid. Makes sense…well, a little despite the increased car payment. Just doing my part to be a good stewart. Anyway, before I move further away from the point of the story and offer a full-blown review of my new car…it seems there are more benefits to owning a hybrid than just MPGs.
It appears that some stores across the U.S. are rewarding hybrid drivers with choice parking spaces. According to this article in the Houston Chronicle…better known as “the Chron”…stores such as Ikea, Office Depot, and Home Depot are offering the beloved spaces for their enviro-friendly patrons.

Keep your space. Better yet, how about converting it to a “pregnant parking” or “elderly without a HC tag parking”? The idea is noble. Thanks, but no thanks. Besides…I need the exercise.
